about.
The initial seed idea of this blog originated from my passion for storytelling through food and documenting my own family’s history, recipes, and traditions from a Hong Kong American lens. What started as a little personal project to understand my heritage transformed into a desire to creatively document a living archive of all the unique experiences I’ve had from kitchen experiments, Cantonese American traditions, cultural experiences through global travel, and reflections from my inner world. It feels uniquely and authentically me.
I’ve always led my life through a creative and curious lens. My fascination with food from a young age where baking intricately decorated desserts and experimenting into the late night in my family kitchen was where it all started for me. My desire to understand why and how things happen in the kitchen led me on a path to earn a culinary science degree in high school, and learn the more technical elements of food at Cornell University’s Food Science program. My experiences span the food, flavor, farming, and hospitality industries working for companies like Impossible Foods, Takasago (Japanese Flavor Company), Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and on organic regenerative farms in New Jersey and Tuscany, Italy. The diversity of experiences has allowed me to understand the food industry more holistically, see the world as a place that is highly interconnected, and expanded my perspective.
I’m a strong believer in the preservation of culture, traditions, and stories. Traveling to more than 50 countries around the globe has opened my eyes to how many stories there are to capture, how there are many similar themes in vastly different places, and how much there is to learn. I’ve always believed that every dish, every place, every person, and every interaction has a story that is worth sharing. These stories provide us with a window into the past and can have the power to influence the world and culture we see and experience in the present and future, as long as we make the effort to preserve them.
My educational background and work experiences intertwined with my passion, creativity, and curiosity have guided me toward an interesting and colorful life — filled with experiential and personal stories to tell from travel, my heritage and home kitchen, and a unique perspective.
I hope you enjoying reading your way through this site, come across stories that may resonate with you, or even inspire you to share your own personal stories with people you love.
